In 1941, during the Belfast Blitz, many of the animals of Belfast Zoo were killed due to concerns of them escaping during the air raids. A baby elephant named Sheila was protected and rescued by zookeeper Denise Weston Austin who took Sheila into her home. And comforted her during these air raids. For a long time her identity remained a mystery and she was given the nickname ‘Elephant Angel’.

This short animation was inspired by this story to celebrate the compassion of Denise Weston Austin and her connection with this elephant.
